Turner House Clinic received notice this morning that we have achieved the designation of Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Look-Alike status from the Health Resources and Services Administration. Last week we announced our merger with two other safety net clinics in Wyandotte County, to do business as Vibrant Health - Wyandotte Neighborhood Clinics; this is an exciting next step in that process!
One of the core goals of Vibrant Health is to improve the health and well being not just of our patients, but of the entire Wyandotte community. The county has consistently ranked at or near the bottom in the state of Kansas in terms of health outcomes. Achieving the FQHC Look-Alike status gives us a much greater capacity to have an impact on these health issues.
As part of this federal designation, we will receive an increased reimbursement rate from Medicaid and Medicare as well as opportunity to participate in the 340b pharmacy assistance program. These changes have greater than a $1 million impact on the organization, allowing us to invest in more services to the most vulnerable in our community.
The merger and this designation are the culmination of a lot of hard work from the board of directors of Turner House to the leadership at the University of Kansas Health System and University of Kansas School of Nursing. Additionally, there has been significant support from the philanthropic community in Kansas City to make this effort happen.
Recently, we held the first all staff meeting of the new organization. Our team, at all levels, has bought in to this mission, the merged entity and the opportunity working collaboratively across three locations provides for increasing our impact.
